About the Square integration

Square is a payments and point-of-sale platform for retailers, restaurants and service businesses. The Unify Payments API reads its payments, refunds, payouts, disputes, customers and orders.

Square's APIs use OAuth 2.0, offer a full sandbox and emit webhooks for payments, refunds, payouts and orders. The Unify Payments API maps payments, refunds, payouts with their entries, disputes, customers, locations and orders to the Unify Graph, so in-store and online sales reconcile the same way.

Why build Square on Unify Int

  • One data model

Square records arrive in the same Unify Graph shape as every other platform in the category, with the original record kept in raw.

  • Unify Connect

A white-label flow for your customers to authorize Square. Tokens are stored and refreshed for you.

  • Custom fields and passthrough

Map Square custom fields per connection, and call any endpoint the model does not cover through passthrough requests.

  • Unify Monitor

Request logs, sync health and alerts for every Square connection, so support can see what happened.

Square integration questions

Does Unify Int support Square charges and refunds?
Yes, in beta. The Unify Payments API reads Square charges, refunds, payouts, balance transactions, disputes and customers. Write-back for refunds and customers is on the roadmap; it appears as Write on this page only once it is confirmed.
How do customers connect their Square account?
Your customer signs in to Square in Unify Connect and approves the requested permissions with OAuth 2.0.
Is there a Square sandbox for testing?
Yes. Square provides sandbox accounts with test locations and test payments for development.
How often does Square data sync?
Unify Sync uses Square webhooks for change detection, so new and updated records usually arrive within minutes, with scheduled polling as a safety net. You can set the schedule per object.
Can I access Square custom fields?
Square custom attributes on customers and orders are returned with records and can be mapped per connection.
