Data this solution uses
THE PROBLEM
Why this is hard today.
Billing and invoicing products have to agree with the ledger. Every invoice you create must use the customer's own accounts and tax codes, and every payment must find its invoice, across whichever ledger each customer runs.
Invoices live in two places
Your product issues the invoice, but the customer's accountant works in the ledger. When the two disagree on numbers, taxes or status, your product is the one that looks wrong.
Tax codes and accounts differ per customer
Every customer has their own income accounts, tax rates and items. Hard-coding them fails on the second customer; asking for them by hand slows onboarding.
Payments arrive without context
Payments land in processors and bank accounts, not on the invoice. Matching them by hand is the work your customers bought your product to avoid.
WHAT YOU GET
What Unify Int does for you.
Invoices in one shape
Invoices, lines, tax lines, customers and credit notes look the same across ledgers, with the raw record for edge cases.

Validated, idempotent writes
Accounts, tax codes, currencies and periods are checked before submit. Idempotency keys stop retries from creating a second invoice.

Payments linked to invoices
Payouts carry their charges, refunds and fees, linked to the invoice they settle when the source provides a reference.

HOW IT WORKS
How it works on Unify Int.
Step 1: Connect the ledger and map once
Customers connect through Unify Connect, then map your products to their items, income accounts and tax rates in a setup screen you build on our objects.
- Item
- Account
- Tax Rate
Step 2: Create invoices with validation
Post invoices with lines, taxes and currency. Unify Int checks accounts, tax codes and periods against the ledger before the write goes out.
- Invoice
- Customer
- Credit Note
Step 3: Track status and match payments
Webhooks report when an invoice is paid, voided or edited in the ledger. Payouts from Stripe, Square or PayPal link to the invoices they settle.

Frequently asked questions
Can we create invoices in our customers' ledgers?
Yes, on platforms where invoice write-back is confirmed. The Accounting API is designed to create and update invoices with lines, taxes and currencies, and each integration page shows the current write status.
How do you handle each customer's tax rates?
We read tax rates and tax codes from the ledger as-is, so you choose them by id. We never calculate tax or invent codes; validation rejects a write that uses a code the ledger does not have.
Will we know when an invoice is paid in the ledger?
Yes. Unify Sync sends a webhook when an invoice changes status, from native webhooks where the platform has them and from change detection where it does not.
Can we reconcile processor payouts to invoices?
The Payments API returns payouts with their charges, refunds and fees, linked to invoices when the source provides a reference. Matching rules stay in your product.
What about credit notes and refunds?
Credit notes are first-class objects with their allocations to invoices, so receivables stay correct after returns and adjustments.
