GLOSSARY

What is ERP consolidation?

DEFINITION

ERP consolidation combines financial data from several ERPs or entities into one view for group reporting, without necessarily replacing any system.

Also called: Financial consolidation, Multi-ERP consolidation

How it works

Groups that grow by acquisition often run several ERPs and ledgers. Consolidation reads each entity's trial balance, maps its chart of accounts to a group chart, converts currencies, eliminates intercompany balances and produces consolidated statements. The alternative, migrating every entity to one ERP, is slower and riskier, so many groups consolidate data first and migrate later, if at all.

Example

A roll-up owns seven companies on four ERPs. Each month it pulls every trial balance, maps them to one group chart and produces a consolidated P&L without asking any company to change systems.

In integrations

The ERP consolidation solution reads entities, trial balances and intercompany data from each ERP through the Unify ERP API into one chart-of-accounts view. The Unify Technology Center can own the mappings and run the process under Managed Integrations. For private equity groups and acquisitive companies, consolidation is often the first reporting need after a deal closes. Doing it from source data, rather than spreadsheets emailed by each company, is faster and easier to audit.
